The weekend has landed and all that matters now is clubs, drugs, pubs and parties. You've got 48 hours off the 9-5, it's time to unbutton your hustle and breathe vigor back into life. Whether it be through losing your soul on the dance floor or grooving to it, we have your soundtrack covered. The EARMILK Weekend Selector, an exclusive guest mix series where we invite the latest budding talent from behind the booth to usher you through all the boozie and jam. From your morning bedside to tonight's evening social, your weekend selector is here to fill a void in good taste and allow fresh connections to flow vicariously.

(WKND08) EARMILK Presents: Weekend Selector - Big Dope P

Call it a juke assault, the Moveltraxx posse jacked your stereo this weekend with ghetto house don Big Dope P stepping up to the plate to bat out hits after hits, bitches et al. Known to do the nasty, this French producer gets his hands dirty in the house and hip hop clash that first sprung out overseas in 90s New York, Detroit and Chicago. Bringing buried styles like hip house, ghetto funk, and tropical bass back up to the surface, Big Dope P testifies that these genres can still pump a crowd while pushing the limits in their own right.

Clocking in at just over 20 minutes, this tape is our shortest one yet but the energy is explosive. 16 tracks drive this juiced list where no BPM conservative dares to go and with cheeky shifts that charge head first into obscene waters, there's no question whether respect and courtesy is left behind. Throwing in bouts of vulgar kuduro with foot stomping electro, Big Dope P proves that filth has no colour and no language. It's force, fried in chicken batter and wrapped in cheap salsa packaging this mix not only churns sounds but also puffed up attitudes and club rocking culture.

[01.27.2012]D.veloped - Work: Party [Exclusive Release]

Work: Party is an 8-track mixtape from D.veloped that mixes and mashes a variety of samples into a 40 minute mix that is perfect for pregaming, partying, and even those moments when you just want to listen to something good. I’ve had the pleasure of being in constant contact with D.veloped throughout the whole mixtape process, and he kindly agreed to give EARMILK an exclusive into the mixtape in individualized format, rather than just a continuous mix.

What’s great about this mixtape? D.veloped gives us a little bit of everything: from hip-hop to some funk, from heavy bass to electronic synths, all culminating in the mixtape going from great to amazing.

[01.27.2012]The Danvilles - Women [Album Review]

Put on your leather jacket and ripped jeans because we're going on a bike ride. This thrilling bike ride will be soundtracked by North Virginia's, The Danvilles. The Danvilles are five men fronted by a member also in The Bravery and his name is Mike Hindert. Early this month, The Danvilles gave us Women, a rock and roll album under Merrifield Records. This collection is less than 30 minutes of rowdy head bangers from ridiculous guitar riffs to vigorous drums to loud self assured vocals. Before listening to The Danvilles, I suggest you grab a beer.

"Road" is the intro to Women and it slowly directs you to the stimulating path of The Danvilles. You know this will be fun once the rattling percussion and risqué voice kicks in. The dominant chorus of " she wants to know if I love her so/ and I said I am good to go" in track two is when the album begins to shape around women. The following song, there is a catchy rhythmic line of "it seems so easy/for you to please me". It won't be long until you're swaying and humming intensely to the southern rock thumps.

[01.27.2012]Earmilk Mustache Bash: Adventure Club - Arizona and Pennsylvania [Win Tix!]

Eyes

It's no secret that we're fans of Adventure Club here at Earmilk. I mean, our own writer Leonard even crawled into bed with them and had a pillow talk interview - give or take. In the past year we've seen Adventure Club sweep over the web & blogsphere with a fever of dubstep remixes, often topping your favourite hype machine - so we thought it would be wise to put them on an Earmilk mini-tour, in partnership with our good friends at Seafarer Entertainment

[01.27.2012]Azealia Banks - "Bambi"

The increasingly popular and envelope pushing muscian known as Azealia Banks has just released a brand new track called "Bambi". This track was originally featured as the soundtrack to the recent Mugler fashion show in Paris. The track is a pretty high intensity dance anthem with all the unpredictability and sexiness, from Azealia, that you have come to expect. What do you call it when you expect unpredictability? Anyway...enjoy.

[01.27.2012]Elevator Pitch: DJ Franchise

dj franchise

In the business world, one of the most important things a business person can do is be able to sum up their skills and ideas in a succinct, compelling summation. Forget Powerpoint presentations, laser pointers, fresh-pressed business wear: if you can't sell yourself in a quick conversation, and stand out amongst "the others," you've lost the attention of your client or superior almost indefinitely. The same concept applies directly to those in the music world. On the daily we are inundated with new music coming at us in our email inboxes, Twitter feeds and Facebook news streams. Particularly with DJs, the brand of music artists who remain  relatively anonymous in comparison to their music, the crucial need to make sure their first impression is their best impression otherwise it may be their last.

Without completely eliminating the dirty work, we've found several DJs from around the world who we believe are worthy of your time. But you can't take them for granted, they're people with views about the music they create. We've interviewed them to see how they got into this trade, what inspires them, what pisses them off, what they've learned over the duration of their individual careers. Once you've read a bit about them, you can hear their elevator speech, an EARMILK exclusive mix they have made to succinctly represent their style and tastes. We're certain they won't fail to impress.

[01.27.2012]Elle Varner - "Conversational Lush" [Mixtape Release]

elle varner

If you let her, Elle Varner could eventually be our next Chrisette Michele or dare I say, Mary J. Blige? But to call Varner "the next anything" would raid her of her own distinctive musical style, on which there is more to elaborate upon than mere comparisons might have one think. Whether waxing poetic over an island-esque percussion on "Feel Like A Woman" or melodically recounting the worst day of her life in three simple words ("WTF"), the R&B newcomer makes it clear she's not a flash in the pan. After dropping her mixtape, Conversational Lush, this past week, it was clear that her single with J. Cole, "Only Wanna Give It To You", released last year, was not just an effective publicity stunt but an appeal to anyone who -- wrongly -- doubted her ability to sustain her success. Few rookies are that good at covering such a broad range of music well.

Arguably one of the standout tracks on her tape is "Refill", which epitomizes Varner's uncanny ability to tell a typical story in an unlikely fashion. Not only is Varner talking about being that awkward "girl who's been at the bar for too long", she's doing it to a bluegrass and R&B beat. You can re-read that last sentence if you would like but somehow producer Pop Wansel has managed to incorporate what sounds like a fiddle into a smooth R&B jam, without compromising anything.
