All hail Beirut! As the legend goes, Zach Condon dropped out of school at the tender age of 16 to stumble through the streets of Europe. During his drunken travels he was introduced to Balkan folk music by a group of Serbian artists and from that moment on the man was forever changed (or at least I like to think so)

Melancholic horns, weeping strings, ukuleles and accordions aplenty lay the foundation for Condon’s ancient voice. At 23 years young its safe to say Beirut has cemented their place in this generations music.

While the works of Beirut have been mostly dependent on Condon, after the release of Gulag Orkestar (2006) a band was formed. While the line up has changed and the size varied the fact remains to be seen. If tracks like ‘Scenic World” and/or ‘Nantes” don’t romance the pants off the one you love you have bigger problems to address.
