Paradis - "Hémisphère" [Audio + Video]
05.15.2012 stolmess

The Parisian duo Paradis has raised the bar for its second 12" release on radio host Tim Sweeney's Beats In Space record label by including a strong narrative element in the construction of the A-side, "Hémisphère." Like Paradis's debut 12" on the RVNG imprint Beats In Space, "Hémisphère" contrasts light chimes and trills with chunky, dark basslines—but "Hémisphère" also comes with a video supplement.

Unless you speak French well enough to understand Paradis's silky singing, it's hard to tell from the lyrics that the song weaves themes of loss and leaving into a visually stunning and captivating 7-minute clip of sex shops, a pretty lady dancing and a violent encounter between an Asian man and a drag queen (the featured image is a screenshot from the video, which should give you an idea).

Tim Sweeney loves old school mediums like FM radio and vinyl, and so it should come as no surprise that he will release "Hémisphère" with "Je M'ennuie" as a physical 12" on May 22, followed by a digital release on May 29. The vinyl edition includes the added bonus of some trippy artwork by Brooklyn-based artist Denise Kupfershmidt.
