Gold and Soil - "Cody's Song" [Video Premiere]
11.27.2012 Alyce Currier

Vocalist/harpist Anahita Navab (Ana Caravelle) and multi-instrumentalist (including jazz bassist, improvizational cellist, and percussionist, who has also worked with Zola Jesus) Ryan York (Asura), two PhD candidates in Psychology and Neuroscience, respectively, have each released on Brian Simon's label Non Projects before as solo artists. Now, their self-titled LP together as Gold and Soil showcases their combined talents and how they complement one another. Birthed in a remote yurt in the Topanga Canyon, the album combines York's skills as a composer and producer with soothing, delicate vocals from Navab in 11 warm, unique tracks.

The video below for "Cody's Song" feels almost meditative, comprised of what feels like it could be a collage of album covers paying homage to nature's beauty, each featuring subtle movement and centered around a particular concept. It's directed by Los Angeles artist Miko Revereza, who's also directed videos for Tamaryn, Ras G and DIVA, as well as doing visuals for Boiler Room, including dublab's event, headlined by Daedelus, last week.
