Ah, what's a better way to start the new year than with the introduction of a new artist fresh from the scene? Hucci Gurl has been immersed in the electronic scene for quite some time and has recently thrown her interest in music to the next level. Deciding to put her own ideas to play, she has finally developed a sound she is comfortable with, which yielded in her first remix. She recently released her own take on Aaliyah's "Are You That Somebody". Unless you were living under the rock throughout the 90s, this particular track got plenty of hype and attention. Listening to Hucci Gurl's remix gave me the shivers of nostalgia, though it has a completely new face. She introduces electronica aspects as well as sprinkles of trap. Overall she boosts the energy and tempo of the original by adding electronic slaps and synths all the while incorporating original vocal samples to maintain that "Aaliyah" feel. Not a bad start, not bad at all.
