The “last Black Hippy to get a wiki”, Ab-Soul has gone from being the obscure fourth member of one of the hottest commodities in the industry (Top Dawg Entertainment) to an emerging star and XXL Freshmen. Continuing the imprint’s incredible run, Soul drops off the incredibly dope “The End Is Near”, which features Mac Miller. In typical fashion, the TDE MC waxes poetics using his uniquely abstract candor giving us gems like, “I’m a king and I smoke a lot of weed / that makes sense, it’s ‘bout 32 ounces in a liter (leader)”. The record, produced by Miller’s alter ego Larry Fisherman, is a subtle statement both for Soul as an MC and Miller as an aspiring beatmaker. Most dope indeed. No word yet on where this record may land, but be on the lookout for Ab-Soul’s collaborative project with JMSN, Unit 6, later this year.
