Matthew McQueen, aka Matthewdavid, has announced new LP In My World, the follow up to his debut Outmind, out July 1 on Brainfeeder. The title track is a surprising sneak preview, showing that McQueen is actually quite a versatile producer and more; while in the past his sound has been akin to either bass-heavy psychedelia or Tim Hecker-esque soundscapes, here the vibe is a soulful, carefree pop song, with vocals by McQueen himself daringly taking center stage more than those of a producer like Eskmo ever have. Coming from the Brainfeeder melting pot of styles and sounds, there’s no telling what the album will sound like as a whole, but I’d love to hear this sound explored at least a little further. While it might not be ideal for Matthewdavid to make a full-on pop album, it’s refreshing to know he can take a risk and pull it off with flying colors.
