Destiny's Child - "Nuclear"

As I was writing this post, a commercial for Beyonce's Super Bowl Halftime Show is lit up my television and drowned out the California sun. I haven't been this excited for a halftime show since Super Bowl XXXII, when I watched Celebrity Deathmatch instead of the NBC organized performance. But when news dropped that Bey would be joined by the rest of Destiny's Child (!!!!!!!!) for part of her performance, I broke into a fever sweat that hasn't stopped since.  Play ...

Denitia and Sene - "Again. (New Ride.)"

2012 has been a stellar year for R&B and Denitia and Sene are finishing strong with a wispy, semi-melancholy slow jam. Sene sings defeatedly as a broken-down car that yearns for the driver's devotion once more while Denitia provides sympathetic coos in the background. This is the kind of track you'd expect to soundtrack a slow stroll, or drive,  on an opaquely grey day after you've just received some pretty upsetting news. Looking very forward to 2013 for this Brooklyn duo. ...

Disclosure - "Please Don't Turn Me On" (Artful Dodger Remix)

"Fuck Yes" was the phrase that I used most today. First, when I saw that there was a new Disclosure track, and then, again, when I listened to it, and then, again, when someone asked me if I wanted a handful of animal crackers. Needless to say, today has been rad. ...

Alicia Keys - "One Thing"

A few things become incredibly transparent when listening to Alicia Keys' penultimate track from Girl on Fire. First, Frank Ocean obviously cowrote this song. "One Thing" sounds like it should have been an epilogue or hidden track right after "Bad Religion." The lyricism is every bit as...

WU LYF - "T R I U M P H" [Video Stream]

I regret to inform you all that this will likely be the last time I will ever get to post about WU LYF, the mysterious, frenetic rockers from Manchester. Although the rest of the band's future is unclear, lead singer Ellery James has written a pretty definitive farewell note in which he declared,...

Charli XCX - "Dance 4 U"

Play "Dance 4 U" was inspired by the opening scene of Planet Terror, in which Rose McGowan dances sensuously around a stripper pole moments before her leg becomes a grenade-launching assault rifle that ultimately wards off a zombie invasion.  As...

Denitia and Sene - "Trip.Fall." [Premiere]

R&B duo Denitia and Sene have been making perfect mid-hookup jams since this summer when they released one of my favorite tracks of the year, “Blah Blah Blah.” And in anticipation of releasing the Blah Blah Blah EP tomorrow, they have debuted “Trip.Fall” another between-the-sheets track...

RATKING - Wiki93 [EP Review]

A cursory listen to Ratking’s debut EP Wiki93, might leave you with the impression that the new hip-hop four piece is mildly abrasive, quick lipped, and a little difficult to understand. And while you might not necessarily be wrong, there is a more precise way to describe them: native New...
