[10.27.2009]Say Hello to “The Headlocks”. Staten Island’s newest jam band.

Author: montrey

Headlocks

I was recently introduced to a folk-rock band called The Headlocks and i’m so glad for this introduction because these guys make some really amazing music. I’m a huge fan of live/folk music and a lot of the songs made by these guys easily fits that description. These guys have a really amazing layered sound that is missing from a lot of new music nowadays. Many would classify The Headlocks as a “jam band” and you definitely get that vibe in a lot of their songs from their latest album because it just feels like these guys really enjoy jamming out together. They have amazing vocals that are backed with a great group of instrumentalists.

One of the best things about this band is they have such an eclectic choice of music that they play. In one song you may hear rock mixed with folk mixed with a little soul sprinkled with some blues and it all sounds great mixed together. The track that sticks out the most to me right now is “Amen to Good Charles” which is a great lively song that wont disappoint if you are in the right mindset and ready to enjoy some light-hearted music. The Headlocks just recently released their debut album entitled Cuckoo Bird and below are a few of the tracks that stood out to me the most. Check them out and check out the bands website and myspace for more.

[10.22.2009]Daily 2% – Chilled and Ready to Serve [Elvis Perkins]

Author: montrey

Elvis Perkins

This is your Daily 2% – Chilled and Ready to Serve. We will try to bring you one “chill” track every day. This is for when you get home and you are trying to unwind. You reach for that glass of wine or that unlit Black & Mild or maybe you reach for something more herbal. This track is for those times. We will try to bring you at least one a day. We are just your milkmen and I’m here to make a delivery. Chill…..

Today’s delivery is brought to you by Elvis Perkins. I’m a huge fan of folky music if its done right and I have to say I’m a huge fan of any work done by this guy Elvis. One of the main reasons I like his music is because his voice has that “haunting” sound like you would hear from Radiohead or something. The track I’m bringing to you today is called “The Night & The Liquor” and its from his album entitled Ash Wednesday which came out in ‘07. this track is definitely low tempo/chilled-out and the  song really displays that “haunting” thing i’m talking about that seems to chill you out. So sit back and relax…

[09.11.2009]Grizzly Bear – “While You Wait For The Others” [Video]

Author: jsully

Grizzly Bear

Grizzly Bear has a penchant for releasing wild-ass videos. Their last video from “Two Weeks” that was released earlier this year was insane, and this newest one for “While You Wait For The Others” trumps it. I’m never really sure what to say whenever I see videos like this. I will tell you it will show you a cooked pot of weirdness stew containing clocks, pets, hobbies, books, stuffed animals, sports equipment, and fencing. I’m going to go ahead and toss in both videos, that way you can judge which one is more strange. Or you can just flip a quarter. Enjoy.

[09.02.2009]Matt & Kim – Daylight (Troublemaker Remix feat. De La Soul)

Author: itstk

Matt & Kim

Seems to be a pretty busy month for DJ Troublemaker, now dropping on us this Daylight remix, which couldn’t make me more happy. Fucking loveeeee Matt & Kim, don’t care who knows it, they’re an amazing duo and deserve as much attention as possible. When Daylight was first released, I don’t even think you can fathom how many times I listened to that song, on repeat, day after day. On top of that, the remix features by far one of the most influential hip-hop groups of all time.. De La Soul, making it that much more amazing. Its not exactly what I would expect from a remix of Daylight, however, I was surprised by the outcome.. immensely.

DJ Troublemaker says:

Words cannot describe the amount of happiness this song brings me.

I consider De La Soul to be the greatest group in the history of hip hop. And, growing up and getting into music production, never did I think I would have the opportunity to work with them. Well, all that changed with this here remix.

EA asked me to remix Matt and Kim’s “Daylight” for NBA Live 10, and have an emcee, or emcees, bless it. Through rapid global file sharing while on tour in Australia, and the blood, sweat and tears of our camps, we have this record to share with y’all.

So if you haven’t heard Matt & Kim yet.. I did a quick mash-up of songs/videos for you, so enjoy..

[08.13.2009]Elvis Perkins In Dearland

Author: jsully

elvis

Here at Earmilk, there are a few favorites that get passed around and around. We talk about them at the meetings, we go to the shows, and we listen while we work. Elvis Perkins is one of those artists. I recently saw him and his band open up for Bon Iver in Orlando, and I can’t even begin to tell you how good the show was.

Elvis Perkins  is a folk-rock recording artist ( I call him “recording artist”, because hates the term “singer/songwriter”. It reminds him of being a bad guitar player at open mic night.) He came to prominence with the release of his debut studio album, Ash Wednesday in 2007. He then toured in support of the album with his band Elvis Perkins in Dearland, composed of Perkins alongside multi-instrumentalists Brigham Brough, Wyndham Boylan-Garnett and Nick Kinsey. The band released their debut, Elvis Perkins in Dearland, on March 10, 2009.

Known for their wide range of dynamics and eclectic instrumentation, Elvis Perkins in Dearland have frequently drawn comparisons to Leonard Cohen, Neutral Milk Hotel, Buddy Holly and The Band. The band formed in Providence, RI around 2004 when Elvis moved to the East Coast upon completing Ash Wednesday, although the members have been friends and collaborators for many years.
