I guess I could write up something real slick and witty explaining what these Nodz & Endz posts are all about, but fuck it, its been done before, and quite frankly I am at a loss for “slick and witty” wording right now. Anyhow, I created this segment of EARMILK as a call to all hip-hoppers, meaning those of you whether you’re dropping beats or dropping rhymes to come out wherever you are. Every Thursday, I will try to bring you a new playlist with some of illest MC’s/beat maestro’s you’ve never heard of. If you’re lucky you may find yourself in there.

VA Rising – A couple of weeks after I returned to VA from my then home of Nashville, I began to go through a series of withdrawals. No, I wasnt hooked on any drugs or anything, but when it came to live music, I was a little spoiled. Nashville’s growing electro/ambient noise scene provided among other things great friends, and a good way to listen to local artist. My roommates and I would sometimes even throw house shows (shouts to my man J-Boh). But after being in such a swell of creativity like that, I was a little less than enthused about the lack of any visible and physical local music in the area to say the least. So I set out in search for one, and while I wouldnt say the seven city area has a real music “scene”, I will definitley say that there are a few exceptional individuals holding things down in a budding hip-hop community.

We’re gonna start with a couple of dope selections from Team Powerhouse founders Stickz (aka The Nefarious Naim) and Sheedy Beatz. Then we’ll move into the electro-tribal sounds of producer Devilish Grin with lyrics provided by Supreme Tactics (S.T. if you will) and the homie HdotP. Finally, we are gonna close you out with some head-banging instrumentals by Juan Deez and BT. MARVEL… more info after the jump.

We’ve been scouring the music lands, and filing through tracks that you enthusiastic readers and musicians have sent us. We’ve found mashups from DJ’s far and wide. We’ve found down-tempo ones. We’ve found super fast and beaty ones. Short ones and long ones. Ones that you wanna sit back and enjoy, and ones that will make you want to rage all over a dance floor. We think we’ve done our part. Happy Halloween my little mischief making mooks. Halloween marks yet another milestone for earmilk, starting from our birth early this summer.. and we couldn’t be more excited. As we mentioned a bit ago in our “whats to come with earmilk” post, over the next month or two we plan on implementing a ton of badass features that will make your music murking easier and more exciting. But until then we still want to get involved with our community as much as possible, so be sure to follow us on Twitter and Be-Friend us on Facebook, we’re also pretty stoked about the current rate of commenting.. but its still not enough, you mooks need to take 2 seconds to show some love, criticize us or at least make fun of jsully.. we love hearing what you guys have to say.

Paul Kalkbrenner is a minimal Dj from the far reaches of Deutsch land – Germany. You see he’s got this film that he stars in, Berlin Calling (posted below). This 2008 film stars Paul Kalkbrenner as Dj Ickarus who is visiting Berlin for his album release tour of different clubs and festivals the usual life of a Dj. The night of his new album release after performing at a show, Dj Ickarus is put up into an emergency ward of a psychiatric clinic for basically abusing too many drug paraphernalia. During the course of the movie Dj Ickarus becomes estranged with his girlfriend and heads down the winding, spiral, of a rabbit hole.

I haven’t personally been able to view this movie yet, and I haven’t seen it on Amazon.com for sale. If anything I’m pretty sure I can compare it to It’s All Gone Pete Tong, the story of fictional Dj character Frankie Wilde. Dj Frankie Wilde becomes deaf during the course of his Dj career and becomes this awry character that still manages to produce talented electronic music.  Oh the lives of cracked-out eccentric Djs , “Pick Me ! Pick ME!”  meh.  Hopefully one day I’ll be able to sniff crack off strippers’ hygienic rumps just like Neil Patrick Harris (Doogie Howser) in Harold and Kumar Go to White Castle.

This post mostly is to give you some great tracks that you may also use to add to your life soundtrack in your various travels n’such.  Sky and Sand- Paul Kalkbrenner  (ft. Fritz Kalkbrenner), is a must have vocal for any nostalgic moment that you may want to refer  back to in your life. This track did not garnish enough publicity as I think it should but you are the judge! Next up are all instrumentals and club bangers  with Square 1, Queer Fellow, and the jazz synth track Atzepeng.  The next two tracks are Kalkbrenners’ hits proving his Uber-electronic sounds with Gebrunn Gebrunn, Azure , and one special edit of Mango (orig. Sascha Funke) to boot.  Square 1 is a personal favorite, Queer Fellow is more of an instrumental that has influences of a scattered, syncopated BT track or a Telefon Tel Aviv production. If you enjoyed those little jazz numbers from Austin Powers’ movies then you should appreciate the track Atzepeng about middle of the song, like most house music, Kalkbrenner blends in a jazzy synth to the vibe.

We don’t mean to drink our own juice but – we think Earmilk is pretty sweet. We’re basically making this post to give you an idea of where earmilk is at and where we are headed. Also, this is an outreach to our readers, to YOU, to have everyone give us feedback and to start getting our growing community more involved with earmilk, as well as with one another. So please take the time to read!

Earmilk broke on the scene mid 2009, but its contributors have been participating in music blog culture as eager readers for many years now. We rose very quickly finding our niches and our fanbases positioned in each. We are a group of odd fellows who find purpose in sharing good music and supporting the artists/people that make that music happen. Right now we explore our favourite genres and talk about what we find relevant in todays music. This is the earmilk of present.

The earmilk of the future is much more than that. We are currently in early stages of many different projects all focused around music, fashion and the urban community as a whole – Basically, a whack of services that bring you information about music you love and might love

• merchandise (t-shirts, stickers, etc)
• more indepth interviews/reviews
