[10.20.2009]Treasure Trove of Digital Delights.

Author: Fab-2tha-Rizio

Nothing like taking it back with all of the great electronic music from over the years. I usually find myself playing this music for friends that really don’t ever touch the genre with their ear-buds or tastes-buds for that matter. All that I’m going to dedicate this posting too is the enjoyment of some of the best  electro, trance, breakbeat, techno, and house music tracks that have been out for quite some time.

That’s  our mission here at Earmilk.com anyway right?  I’ve got a little bit from the tastes of James Holden (personal favorite), and Eric Prydz with his 80’s science fiction epic sound. We’ve also got tastes from lesser known artists, most of the songs had me pop-lockin around the climax about  2:00 minutes into the track. The track from PQM – While You Were Sleeping is probably the most interesting as it tells of a vocal storyline involving a man trying to save a prostitute from the slums only to find his demise in the end.

These digital delights can be found in various Dj sets by Sander Kleinenberg, John Digweed, and also Steve Lawler. Hell, Eddie Murphy even has a special part in one of these tracks remixed by Sharam( Deep Dish), can you guess which one?  We even took it back to the skating ring days with Freestyle- Don’t Stop the Rock.My favorite song of this post, oh man this is tough cause they all make me wanna get down and boogie, but the 70ish sound from Cross The Dancefloor-Treasure Fingers!  Gobble these delights up and at least put a hand in the air , enjoy ladies and gents.

[09.29.2009]Paul Kalkbrenner- Sky and Sand (ft. Movie: Berlin Calling)

Author: Fab-2tha-Rizio

Mka7

Paul Kalkbrenner is a minimal Dj from the far reaches of Deutsch land – Germany. You see he’s got this film that he stars in, Berlin Calling (posted below). This 2008 film stars Paul Kalkbrenner as Dj Ickarus who is visiting Berlin for his album release tour of different clubs and festivals the usual life of a Dj. The night of his new album release after performing at a show, Dj Ickarus is put up into an emergency ward of a psychiatric clinic for basically abusing too many drug paraphernalia. During the course of the movie Dj Ickarus becomes estranged with his girlfriend and heads down the winding, spiral, of a rabbit hole.

I haven’t personally been able to view this movie yet, and I haven’t seen it on Amazon.com for sale. If anything I’m pretty sure I can compare it to It’s All Gone Pete Tong, the story of fictional Dj character Frankie Wilde. Dj Frankie Wilde becomes deaf during the course of his Dj career and becomes this awry character that still manages to produce talented electronic music.  Oh the lives of cracked-out eccentric Djs , “Pick Me ! Pick ME!”  meh.  Hopefully one day I’ll be able to sniff crack off strippers’ hygienic rumps just like Neil Patrick Harris (Doogie Howser) in Harold and Kumar Go to White Castle.

This post mostly is to give you some great tracks that you may also use to add to your life soundtrack in your various travels n’such.  Sky and Sand- Paul Kalkbrenner  (ft. Fritz Kalkbrenner), is a must have vocal for any nostalgic moment that you may want to refer  back to in your life. This track did not garnish enough publicity as I think it should but you are the judge! Next up are all instrumentals and club bangers  with Square 1, Queer Fellow, and the jazz synth track Atzepeng.  The next two tracks are Kalkbrenners’ hits proving his Uber-electronic sounds with Gebrunn Gebrunn, Azure , and one special edit of Mango (orig. Sascha Funke) to boot.  Square 1 is a personal favorite, Queer Fellow is more of an instrumental that has influences of a scattered, syncopated BT track or a Telefon Tel Aviv production. If you enjoyed those little jazz numbers from Austin Powers’ movies then you should appreciate the track Atzepeng about middle of the song, like most house music, Kalkbrenner blends in a jazzy synth to the vibe.

[09.05.2009]J.Period & K’naan present: The Messengers Ep.1 – Fela Kuti

Author: JAHN DOUGH

If there is one thing that’s become obvious by now, it’s that Earmilk appreciates a good remix. But one thing we appreciate even more is a good musical history lesson. We find this in The Messengers. A few weeks back, J. Period, the incredible DJ behind, amongst other things, Kid Cudi and Consequence’s “Buggin Out 2009″ teamed up with the incredible MC hailing from Somalia, K’naan, to drop a digital EP of what will come to be known as The Messenger Series (Fela Kuti, Bob Marley, and Bob Dylan). The EP included tracks from each episode. They recently dropped the first installation entitled Fela which includes remix’s of some of Fela’s best songs with ill lyrics from K’naan…T.I.A!!!!!

“Who’s Fela?”, you may be asking? Fela Ransome Kuti was more than just a musical artist. The man was a human rights activist, a radical political frontman for Africa and Africans everywhere and he is the godfather of what we know today as afrobeat, the perfect blend of soul and funk with African rhythm’s and instruments. With that said, listen to what K’naan has to say about this particular messenger and do more research on the revolutionary for your own knowledge.

[06.16.2009]Daily 2% – Chilled and Ready to Serve [DJ Shadow & Dan the Automator]

Author: montrey

djshadow

This is your Daily 2% – Chilled and Ready to Serve! We will try to bring you one “chill” track every day. This is for when you get home and you are trying to unwind. You reach for that glass of wine or that unlit Black & Mild or maybe you reach for something more herbal. This track is for those times. We will try to bring you at least one a day. We are just your milkmen and I’m here to make a delivery. Chill…..

Today’s delivery is brought to you by DJ Shadow & Dan the Automator. Most people should be familiar with these two artists and they should also be familiar with the album they did together. I do believe the album did slip by some so I wanted to post one of their chill songs. Its from the album they did together called “Bombay The Hard way (Guns, Cars & Sitars)” and the theme of this album all has to do with that “Indian”/Middle Eastern sound. The track is called “Professor Pyarelal” and its one of the chiller songs from the album.

DJ shadow has a few new projects coming up and one of them is to play a part in the new game called DJ Hero which will be made by the Guitar Hero folks and Dan the Automator has a new group called Crudo and also he’s been making beats for the new Adidas advertisements. So anyway…enough yak yak. Here’s the track for your Daily 2%. Just chill…..
