[01.10.2010]You Better Fucking Recognize: Tyler, the Creator

Author: JAHN DOUGH

So, I was kicking it with one of my homies the other day passing along this mixtape that Tyler, The Creator released over the holidays entitled, Bastard. As a producer himself, naturally, before listening, my friend asks “How would you describe his sound?” My response was this; “Imagine, if you will, that in some parallel dimension, Zev Love X and the bastard female offspring of satan had a child together. Now, lets say that this same daughter of satan happens to be one of the hoes in N.E.R.D’s “Lapdance” video, and that she leaves the little dude on the set upon finishing her scene. Then, when he gets old enough, he goes to his father only to find out that he’s changed his name to DOOM, he’s one of the most respected MC’s in the world, and wants nothing to do with the little shit. This little shit in our dimension would probably parallel Tyler, The Creator”

It was the best description I could give, and I probably didn’t even tap on the cusp of the twisted imagination of the 18 year old MC/producer. I was first put on to Tyler when he dropped The Odd Future Tape sometime in late 2008, an ill project that included fellow MC’s such as Casey Veggies and Hodgy Beats. With his “fuck you”, punk attitude, genuinely diabolical flow and hyper-violent lyrics, this kid’s music definitely isn’t for the easily offended. Albeit, it oozes a creativity that surpasses a lot of his older contemporary’s. Download one of the most hilariously offensive albums since the Marshall Mathers LP after the jump, and be sure to check back for more from this budding artists.

[10.24.2009]Weezer – Can’t Stop Partying (ft. Lil Wayne) + Weezyer (Weezer vs. Weezy Mashup ALBUM!)

Author: jsully

weezyer

That’s right, Weezy and Weezer. Together on the band’s track “Can’t Stop Partying.” On the band’s new album, “Raditude” out October 27th, frontman Rivers Cuomo wanted to try his hand at some different genres, including R&B. For the transformation, Cuomo hooked up with producer Jermaine Dupri for “Partying.”

“It was a real challenge for me, taking his ideas, which are very slick, R&B party [ideas], and giving it some kind of edge, some darkness, making it work with rock, making it work with Weezer,”

To add to the authenticity, Weezer next recruited Lil Wayne. My mind is fucking blown right now. I’m not sure what to think really. I loves me some old school Weezer. And Lil Wayne does his own thing in his own right. So there’s that.

While researching, I found something all you mash up fans might get into. An album by Mole Star called “Weezyer” that is a complete mash up of different Weezer and Weezy songs. I was amazed. It’s pretty damn good too. I’m posting all the tracks.

Enjoy.

[09.12.2009]Brand New – Sewing Season [Live from 'Daisy' Studio Video]

Author: jsully

Brand New

I was sitting at home when Orlando/Portland DJ Brian Fowler sent me this video (props). This is a solo acoustic performance of ‘Sewing Season‘ by Brand New done by lead singer Jesse Lacey. The band is interviewed about their recording process, and how they communicate with each other in the studio.

A lot of people have had mixed feelings about their newest album, which was leaked a few weeks back. Some people think it is their best album, a natural progression of sorts. Some people think they have fallen off and now sound too different from their original sound. This is a great video with them explaining their trials and triumphs in making ‘Daisy‘, and is a must watch.

[09.02.2009]Brand New – Daisy Leak

Author: jsully

Brand New

I have been a little torn about this post. My inner fan says not to do it, but my Earmilk roots say to go for it. Then I saw what Jesse Lacey had to say about Brand New’s new album “Daisy” being leaked:

“If you can find it, go for it.”

So with that said, what I have been waiting for for almost 3 years has finally come to fruition. Daisy, Brand New’s 4th studio album was supposed to be released September 22, but was leaked earlier this week. The internet has been a buzz of people discussing the new album, whether or not it meets what everyone expected or not. For me, it was different than what I expected, but I more than understood it. Brand New fans understand that every album is a progression, every album is completely different than the last. Each album has changed, and changed again. I think that is part of what makes them so appealing to so many people. I have even heard people compare Brand New in such forms as saying “Brand New is the Pink Floyd of our generations consumerism.” and I honestly can’t say I disagree.

With all that said, the songs on Daisy will rip you to shreds. Loud guitars, louder screams, and lyrics that make you feel like you’re downing and no one is there to help. Most of the songs on this album were written by lead guitarist Vin Accardi, not front man Jesse Lacey. I think you can tell a significant difference, some of the songs are so strange you question what exactly is going on. I think its great, and I am super happy to be able to hear this album early, and will definitely be first in line to go pick it up when it hits stores.

I’m going to post up a few of my favorite tracks from this album, and if you want the entire album, you can follow the bread crumb trail like Jesse asks. So, with no further a-do, enjoy Daisy.

[08.10.2009]Brand New – At The Bottom

Author: jsully

Brand New

So I know it’s not what we always do. And I also take into consideration not everyone will like it. But you need to check this out, because Brand New rips it so hard.

I’m seriously tempted to write up the entire history of Brand New, and explain to you why I like them so much. Unfortunately, I know the majority of you are not here to listen to Brand New. You are here to get you fill of some good hip-hop, electro, etc…, and we are happy to oblige. However, there are times when this particular Earmilk writer wants to write up something that is a little out of the status quo. This is the time for Brand new.

This song is the first track off of their newest album “Daisy” that I have been waiting for for a very, very, very long time. I found out about this band on their first album, “Your favorite weapon“, and was hooked. They were slightly more poppy back then, but still brutal. When “Deja Entendu” came out, I didn’t know if it could get much better. Then it did with “The Devil And God Are Raging Inside Me“. It’s been awesome to see this band progress and get so much more serious and so much better over the years. Tickets for their show here in Orlando just went on sale today, and I could honestly not be happier. This tops off what was already an amazing start to a day for me.

So with that said, hopefully some other unsuspecting Brand New fan will come across Earmilk today and feel the same way. So stoked right now.

Enjoy.
