[02.17.2010]Daily 2% – Chilled and Ready to Serve [Easy Star All-Stars + Matisyahu]

Author: montrey

This is your Daily 2% – Chilled and Ready to Serve. We will try to bring you one “chill” track every day. This is for when you get home and you are trying to unwind. You reach for that glass of wine or that unlit Black & Mild or maybe you reach for something more herbal. This track is for those times. We will try to bring you at least one a day. We are just your milkmen and I’m here to make a delivery. Chill…..

Today’s delivery is brought to you by Easy Star All-Stars. A lot of people were introduced to this group back in 2006 when they dropped the Radiohead cover album entitled Radiodread. The album was a filled with dubbed/reggae versions of classic Radiohead tracks and these guys really are able to keep the essence of the original song yet make the song their own. The track i’m bringing to you today is “Within You Without You” which features Matisyahu and its from their latest album entitled Easy Star’s Lonely Hearts Dub Band which is a tribute album to The Beatles’ album Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band.  The track is very trance-y and melodic but it is these qualities that make it worthy of a Daily 2%. You may be reminded of groups like Thievery Corporation when listening. Check out the track and chill….

Chill…..

Today’s delivery is brought to you by one of my favorite reggae groups…Katchafire. The group pretty much started out as a Bob Marley tribute band and we’ve posted about this group before and pretty much all the tracks they produce are instant classics for me. The song i’m bringing to you today is called “Who You With” and its from their album entitled Revival. The reason I’m posting this one today is because I would really like to get feedback from our readers about the topic of the track. My friends and I have argued on whether the song is talking about marijuana or sex/condoms/hooking up. Really need some feedback on this one so if you listen to the track and you appreciate what we do here on the site then please leave a comment on what you think they are talking about. So check out the track,  chill AND comment…

Today’s delivery is brought to you by Stephen Marley & Mos Def. How can you go wrong with this type of collaboration? Honestly this track was destined to be a classic right when these guys decided to do a song together. This song is from Stephen’s 2007 debut album called Mind Control and the track is called “Hey Baby”. Tracks like this are what inspired me to do such a thing as a “Daily 2%” in the first place so check out the track and chill…

[01.21.2010]Nubian – Rise 2 The Top [Video]

Author: JAHN DOUGH

Nubian

Here is the latest video from Nubian. His follow up to “Body Language” entitled “Rise 2 the Top”. Like “Body Language”, the video is directed by SLAM Video Magazine founder Yorle. The track will be featured on his EP dropping February 7th entitled Nu Beginnings. If you happen to be in VA Beach, Virginia at the time, then you should go check out his release party (flyer after the Jump); a little disclaimer though… his parties get pretty wild. If you look closely, you’ll see that LiOn, another friend and deliverer of goods to Earmilk, has a small cameo in the beginning. Check out the video below.

Today’s delivery is brought to you by Jacob Miller who was a major influence on roots reggae back in the 70’s when Bob Marley was in the scene. I talked about this song last year but I think its a great song to play near the beginning of 2010 to really give a good message for the year. This track is called “Forward Ever Backward Never” and truly is a way of thinking that everyone should incorporate into their lives. If you hadn’t thought this way before than 2010 is a perfect time to start. Check out the track below and chill…

This is your Daily 2% – Chilled and Ready to Serve. We will try to bring you one “chill” track every day. This is for when you get home and you are trying to unwind. Today’s delivery is brought to you by a group called 10Ft Ganja Plant. That’s right folks that’s their actual name and you couldn’t think of a better name once you have listened to their stuff. They make a lot of great classic dub reggae that’s perfect for a sunny day (regardless of the temperature) to chill out to. These guys hail from New York and have always been quite a mystery to most folks because they are known for not naming their guest artists and just keeping low-key. They have released 4 albums to date and the the song i’m bringing to you today is from their Bass Chalice album and the track is called “Blood Money”. Everybody could use a little more reggae in their life so check out the track and relax….
