[03.01.2010]Adrian Younge & The Black Dynamite Sound Orchestra – Shot Me In The Heart [video]

Author: JAHN DOUGH

Adrian Younge, the composer and arranger for Black Dynamite, the hilarious comedy that dropped last year from Michael Jai White and Scott Sanders, has finally put some visuals up for the track “Shot Me In The Heart”. Black Dynamite is probably the most authentic rendition of a 70’s blaxploitation film I’ve seen and yes, the music you are hearing throughout the movie are original compositions by Younge, save for some of the segways which is handpicked british library music. The classic sound of the music makes the film that much more genuine. Anywho, if you loved the movie you’ll probably enjoy the visuals just as much being that the blaxploitation/soul theme is reiterated. More after the jump…

Rox

She’s performed with Mark Ronson and opened for Raphael Saadiq, just to name a few. Headlined the HMV “Next Big Thing” event at the Jazz Café earlier this month, winning rave reviews, and is set to headline her own show at the London Tabernacle next month (March 18th).

Listen: Rox – My Baby Left Me

EM: Congratulations on the Jazz Café show last week. I went a long and thought you did a great job.

Rox: Thank you so much. The weird thing is Krystal Warren (Brooklyn based musician) was opening for me, which was pretty amazing. I’m such a huge fan of hers; it was really cool meeting her.

EM: You Seemed very confidant on stage, how do you find performing live and do you ever get nervous?

Rox: I don’t get nervous anymore, it’s more excitement than nerves. I’ve been performing for quite a few years now and have learnt to deal with the nerves. I actually feel most comfortable when I’m on stage. I just love performing and interacting with the crowd, so it’s definitely more of an exciting feeling than anything.

The album just came out on Feb 2nd so you aren’t really behind if you are just now hearing about her. She’s been around for a minute but this is her first US release. The song “Heartbeat” has so much soul and emotion put into it and the heartbeat rhythm just puts you into a little trance. I’ve also included another song from her album just to give you a little sample. Check out the video and the tracks below.

[01.07.2010]Daily 2% – Chilled and Ready to Serve [Marvin Gaye]

Author: montrey

This is your Daily 2% – Chilled and Ready to Serve. We will try to bring you one “chill” track every day. This is for when you get home and you are trying to unwind. You reach for that glass of wine or that unlit Black & Mild or maybe you reach for something more herbal. This track is for those times. We will try to bring you at least one a day. We are just your milkmen and I’m here to make a delivery. Chill…..

I’m not sure how many of you out there make daily agenda’s that you write down but my personal belief is that “make love” should always be on that list. Even if it isn’t accomplished; it should always be striven for. Today’s delivery could help with just that goal and it’s brought to you by none other than Marvin Gaye himself. The track I’m bringing to you today is entitled “After The Dance” and its the instrumental version from the album I Want You which was a pretty big hit album back in the 70’s. This track is truly amazing and it just shows the type of experimentation that Marvin was known for. Check out the track, chill and start getting to those agenda items…

[12.11.2009]Sade “Soldier of Love” [Brand New Single]

Author: montrey

sade

First off let me say i’m kicking my own ass for being a few days late on this song. I talk about Sade to friends on the daily but somehow when she finally comes out with something after about 10 years; i’m a bit behind. Nevertheless, Sade has released a new single from her upcoming album that will be released worldwide on February 8th, 2010. The album will be entitled Soldier of Love and the single shares the same name. The single has that original Sade sound mixed with more modern instrumentals and a heavier beat. Sade’s voice is a bit deeper and more sultry in this song; mixed with a rebel music vibe this song makes for a perfect comeback single. Check out the song below and when the album drops PLEASE spend actual $ on it. This is freaking SADE we are talking about here people. Enjoy and add this to your bedroom mix….

[11.13.2009]Georgia Anne Muldrow – Run Away

Author: JAHN DOUGH

Georgia Anne Muldrow

Georgia Anne Muldrow is arguably the most controversial figure, musically, to grace the soul/R&B genre since Erykah Badu brought us Baduizm back in ‘97. I was first introduced to songstress in 2007 with Olesi: Fragments of an Earth, a release from the ever renowned Stones Throw label that had been released a year prior. What I heard, simply, blew me away. From it’s tribal beat compositions to it’s experimental psych-funk tinges and Georgia’s afro-centric/futurist lyrics, it was easily one of the most intriguing records I had listened to that year.

A quick look at her past, and it should come to know surprise why Georgia’s music is so eclectic stylistically. Her father was an instrument inventor for Eddie Harris, one of the most underrated jazz greats, who had a knack for experimenting and had a hand in birthing Jazz-funk. Her mother Rickie Byers was a vocalist in The Pharoah Sanders Ensemble. she also had a couple of solo efforts herself.

“Run Away” is a track from her latest album entitled Early. While this may seem like a new song to those just being put on to Georgia, the album is actually a collection of music that she wrote between the ages of 17 and 19. That may be where she had the idea to make the video into an old 70’s cartoon format. I’d recommend checking out some of her older work before listening to this album because you can hear the music transform into what it is now. I have left a few tracks from Olesi for your listening pleasure after the jump, enjoy.
