For all you vampire tweeners out there.. the release of this soundtrack gets you giggling in excitement cause you’re one step closer to drowning yourself in a cesspool of vampires and love. However, this soundtrack is surprisingly pretty amazing. The New Moon Soundtrack features artists such as Lykke Li, Bon Iver, Grizzly Bear, Death Cab for Cutie, Muse.. and that’s only a few, all doing tracks exclusively for the movie.  I can only imagine how awful this movie is going to be, but with a soundtrack like this I’m willing to go and watch it with my eyes closed.  The album itself is actually set to be released October 20th, as for the movie.. its due in theaters November 20th.  I have still yet to see Twilight, so if I’m missing anything please give me a heads up but other then that I included a bunch of tracks off the anticipated soundtrack below, so check em out and enjoy:

[09.17.2009]Say Hello – Volcano Choir

Author: Fimayo

Volcano Choir

What happens when Justin Vernon of Bon Iver collides with the ambient outfit that is Collections of Colonies of Bees? A beautiful music baby is born to the world and they shall name it Volcano Choir.

Back in the summer of 2005, Wisconsin natives Jon Mueller, Chris Rosenau, Jim Schoenecker, Dan Spack, Thomas Wincek and Justin Vernon began the original song writing for what looks to be a fantastic release. ‘Island, IS” is the first song to be released off the upcoming debut LP Unmap. The album is said to have come together at Vernon’s Wisconsin recording studio over a weekend in the late months of 2008.

‘Island, IS” is a tight grid of colorful loops, layered over top of loose brushes on the snare and topped off with the soulful sounds of Justin Vernon’s male falsetto. From what I’ve heard Volcano Choir is not unlike Collections of Colonies of Bees in terms of mood/atmosphere. But as soon you add the words and tone of Vernon’s vocals, it almost immediately adds the depth and complexity that can only be achieved when a group of talented musicians such as them collaborate. The track is busy it its own right but never feels crowded, always making room for the next layer to make its entrance.

While there is little to be found from Volcano Choir as of right now. I felt the need to share these tracks with you lovely people, as they have been spinning round and round in my playlist since their discovery. Enjoy.

[08.13.2009]Elvis Perkins In Dearland

Author: jsully

elvis

Here at Earmilk, there are a few favorites that get passed around and around. We talk about them at the meetings, we go to the shows, and we listen while we work. Elvis Perkins is one of those artists. I recently saw him and his band open up for Bon Iver in Orlando, and I can’t even begin to tell you how good the show was.

Elvis Perkins  is a folk-rock recording artist ( I call him “recording artist”, because hates the term “singer/songwriter”. It reminds him of being a bad guitar player at open mic night.) He came to prominence with the release of his debut studio album, Ash Wednesday in 2007. He then toured in support of the album with his band Elvis Perkins in Dearland, composed of Perkins alongside multi-instrumentalists Brigham Brough, Wyndham Boylan-Garnett and Nick Kinsey. The band released their debut, Elvis Perkins in Dearland, on March 10, 2009.

Known for their wide range of dynamics and eclectic instrumentation, Elvis Perkins in Dearland have frequently drawn comparisons to Leonard Cohen, Neutral Milk Hotel, Buddy Holly and The Band. The band formed in Providence, RI around 2004 when Elvis moved to the East Coast upon completing Ash Wednesday, although the members have been friends and collaborators for many years.
