[12.09.2009]Mos Def – Supermagic (Official Video)

Author: JAHN DOUGH

ENTX

The Mighty Mos returns with the second official video/single from his album The Ecstatic, a psych rock bollywood head banger, produced by the homie Madlib Oh No (Madlib’s talented younger brother). It may seem kind of late for a video, but its probably because he has been pretty busy over in studio DD172 with Dame Dash, his own segment on CreativeControl.tv, “Tonight @ Noon”, and Center Edge Territory. Check out the video after the jump.

[09.28.2009]Mos Def and DOOM [VIDEO & MP3]

Author: montrey

DOOM

So its been announced that DOOM and Madlib will be coming back together, not only for the concert in November, but also to release a new album. We posted about that a few weeks ago. There are plenty of fans of DOOM, including myself, and the list is always growing. But there is one person who is a major fan of DOOM’s that you might not have predicted. And that’s Mos Def. Mos Def had a video a few months back of him in the studio going over his favorite DOOM rhymes off the top of his head. Now there is a NEW video that just dropped of Mos Def once again spitting some dope DOOM rhymes but this time DOOM makes a cameo himself in the video. Gotta hope that these two dudes come together and finally put out a sick album together. You know its gotta be coming. Mos Def is rapping lyrics from DOOM’s Madvillian song called “Meat Grinder”. Check out the song and the videos below:

[07.23.2009]Madlib/Guilty Simpson to release album as “O.J. Simpson”

Author: jsully

Madlib

Guilty Simpson, has teamed up once again with Madlib (Otis Jackson) for a full-length album on Stones Throw which shall be known as O.J. Simpson. Guilty definitely has an interesting flow that’s super gruffy and hard, and Madlib’s beats are always quirky to say the least. I’m pretty excited for this release, which will drop this fall and be called “Coroner’s Music“. From the research I’ve done on the single (which you can download below), you can expect to hear some Dilla over tones with a little DJ Premier influence also.

I’m happy that these two are releasing something together again. I always love to hear a crazy talented DJ/MC duo, and you can only expect it to be fly as hell. Don’t let the name throw you though. No Johnny Cochran, no bloody gloves, no white bronco’s, and no dead white girls (at least as far as we know). Enjoy.

Audio clip: Adobe Flash Player (version 9 or above) is required to play this audio clip. Download the latest version here. You also need to have JavaScript enabled in your browser.

Download: O.J. Simpson (Madlib/Guilty Simpson) – Coroner’s Music

I also couldn’t help but throw this in there. This is Madlib’s video from an electronic press kit to release Beat Konducta. Mad funny.

[07.15.2009]The Wire interviews Madlib

Author: JAHN DOUGH

The Wire is the most in depth music magazine selling right now, with other magazines such as Wax Poetics, Fader and Paste among its ranks. Credited for their fantastic interviews, the good people over at The Wire caught up with the legendary Stones Throw mainstay, the Beat Konducta aka Quasimoto aka Madlib, for another one. By the way, he hasn’t done an interview since 2006! Below is part of an excerpt from “The Crate Mass Experiment”.

“My computer?” echoes Madlib incredulously. “I never use a computer. It’s too easy. It’s not easy to sound like Dilla, but you can make beats like Dilla with your computer, so that’s why everybody sounds like Dilla.” Madlib is in the middle of a European tour giving a rare interview – his first, in fact, since 2006. As we sit in his East London hotel room, I’m reminded that I’m talking to a man who doesn’t use the internet or email. “You gotta look me in the eye,” he explains. “That’s why people start arguing. You can be bold while you’re typing.”

True words from a crate diggin, hip-hop virtuoso. Be sure to read the whole excerpt and learn more about the interview here.
