Suicide Sundae 2

Suicide Sundaes – stop your grinnin’ and drop your linen. Every Sunday electblake and jsully of Earmilk will bring you the weeks dirty servings, and some old favorites through a throwdown-throwback to simpler times. A time when bangers were big, remixes were bigger, the bassline bled, and we didn’t care about anything as long as came in kicking and left screaming. To hell with sketchy sunday, we want to shove another dragon down the hole.

As this is our first week we wanted to take this opportunity to pay homage to the great sunday feature of our time – Palms Out Sounds’ Remix Sunday.

Palms Out has been a staple in the music blog culture since there was a culture and is not doubt a major influence on earmilk and all the editors/contributors here. Late last year, “Google, the IFPI & the RIAA begun a campaign against all the music blogs hosted on blogger.com – especially high profile blogs, like Palms Out.” and as such started deleting posts without warning even though Palms Out has expressed permission from artists covered weak week – We want to pay them respect by lighting a new fire on sundays…read the full post about it here

In this inaugural and resurrecting post we bring you some of the favourites of the holy years of Electro like Diplo, The Bloody Beetroots, Dom Rimini, Justice as well as some soon to be big boys (and girls) on the scene (autoKratz, and more). So shutup, plug in your studio speakers, and bounce.

[06.16.2009]The Word: Folk powerhouses to reunite

Author: jsully

The Word

Sometime in late 2001, I was rummaging around a record store in Missouri, and stumbled across an album simply titled “The Word“. Naturally interested in what material could be labeled this way, I checked out the back cover, and was immediately thankful to whatever force put that album in my hands. Their mix of jazz-infused keys, distorted slide-guitar, and pounding drums all inspired by southern gospel music left me only wanting more.

The Word is comprised of all three members of The North Mississippi All-Stars, John Medeski (Medeski, Martin, and Wood) and Robert Randolph. All three of whom are noted as the best of the best in the folk/jamband genre. Their one and only self titled album was released early 2001 on Ropeadope Records, after which they did a small amount of touring (which led to sold out shows), then reunited again in 2007-08, only to play more sold out shows to groove-hungry folk fans throughout the U.S.

Now, The Word are to re-unite again for JamCruise 8, a cruise going from Ft. Lauderdale, FL., to Jamaica, then to the Cayman Islands, and back to Ft. Lauderdale. They will be playing with artists such as Sound Tribe Sector 9 (STS9), J.J. Grey & Mofro, Zappa plays Zappa, and Galactic.

While we may not all be able to hop on a boat to Jamaica anytime soon, we can certainly hope to see more dates added to The Word’s touring schedule. When they do, please believe I’ll be there with my dancing shoes on. – WORD.
