[09.01.2009]Glitch Mob – Renegade Street Warfare Video

Author: jsully

The Glitch Mob

Maaaaaaaan. I love The Glitch Mob. These dudes are just constantly, constantly, constantly sick. I can honestly say, I don’t think they have ever put anything bad out. Ever. Every time I listen to their music I get hyped. Everyone does, I don’t think people can help it. Anyways, they recently went all renegade status and decided to show up to a few different places in San Francisco, set up a table, and jam. People started coming from all around to see them, and they blew them all away. They play at an Apple store, than Amoeba Music, a skate park, all over. They just dominate. They did it all for XLR8R, which is also a great underground tunes mag I’m sure you are all aware of.

If you aren’t aware of who Glitch Mob is, it’s the straight crunkest bunch of music masters this side of oblivion; their sets of the dirtiest, stickiest, nastiest, most insane bass licks make dancers’ brains explode. edIT, Ooah, Kraddy and Boreta make up The Glitch Mob. Defying all categorization and forcing writers to make up new words, the Glitch Mob rejects traditional instrumentation and instead relies on robotic bleeps, mechanical clicks and scratches, erroneously produced noises never found in nature and an army of bass, often overlaid with gritty and organic rap lyrics. Straight up, shit is mean. Just watch the video, listen to some of the tunes, and enjoy it.

[07.03.2009]New Joakim Album! – ‘Milky Ways’ LP [Sneak Peek]

Author: electblake

Joakim
Naive Melody / Manchester / 28-11-08 tomjackson-photography.com

The french modern electronic artist Joakim Bouazziz aka Joakim has new music for you – and its not french electro. In 2007, Joakim created what seemed to be an instant cult classic when he released Monsters & Silly Songs, which brought together his vast array of skills as a multi-instrumentally talented musician. Now Joakim plays with a live band! JOAKIM & THE DISCO

His latest (2009) LP entitled Milky Ways continues this trend by blending many traditional aka organic instruments with subtle synth pads and effects. At times fairly electronic and even Animal Collective’y, this album has something for the entire spectrum of electronic fans.

Listening to this album, one notices that Joakim’s songs sound as if they are played live – for an electronic album, it has a very organic feel. This is done by utilizing great drum recordings layered with instrumentation that can be re-constructed live. That is to say that he doesn’t seem to do much editing to his songs like a dj/producer would. Joakim is an artist and a musician not merely knob twiddler or a mode selector ;)

[06.26.2009]Black Moth Super Rainbow – Twin of Myself (Go! Team Remix)

Author: jsully

BMSR

The new Go! Team remix of Black Moth Super Rainbow’s “Twin of Myself” is a super happy and pretty little song. The indie/ electronica heads over here at Earmilk get stoked real hard on BMSR, and we’ve been waiting for the right time to give them what they deserved on a post.

For those of you who aren’t familiar with BMSR, they are an experimental band from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. It’s extremely hard to describe their music, but on the insert on their album Dandelion Gum, this was written:

“Deep in the woods of western Pennsylvania vocoders hum amongst the flowers and synths bubble under the leaf-strewn ground while flutes whistle in the wind and beats bounce to the soft drizzle of a warm acid rain. As the sun peeks out from between the clouds, the organic aural concoction of Black Moth Super Rainbow starts to glisten above the trees.”

Yeah. Crazy, right? So in honor of BMSR, I’m not only posting this latest remix, but a few of their other songs and a video for their song Sun Lips, and an XLR8R video done for them, episode 34.

Big post for BMSR today. They deserve it.
